THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NORTHERN LIGHTS COLLECTION
The Northern Lights Collection was the very first jewelry collection I ever made. While it was nerve-wracking, it was also one of the most exciting projects I've ever done. I didn't just wake up one day and decide to quit my job and start my own company. As with most changes in life, it was a long process.
In the beginning of my glass art career, I made all sorts of different objects, such as glass plates, ashtrays, chess boards, and everything in between. When I decided to add jewelry to that list, I knew I wanted to create something inspired by the beautiful nature in Tromsø, where I grew up.
Tromsø is a small island in northern Norway, located above the Arctic Circle. The City Centre's small wooden houses are a stark contrast to the high mountains surrounding the island. During the summer, the days are never ending and vibrating of life. The winters are the definition of a frosty paradise, where you can go skiing in perfect powder snow conditions. No matter what direction you look, you will always find beauty in Tromsø.
My favorite direction was to look up at the magical Aurore Borealis that could cover the entire night sky. It is like a snow flake, you can never see the same light show twice. Just like taking a picture, I wanted to freeze one moment in time. My vision was to capture an expression of the Aurora Borealis in a frame, and that became the inspiration behind the Northern Lights Collection.
